OVERVIEW
Employment has been at the base of most of the various initiatives undertaken by the government in the last seven years. Various programmes designed were meant to give opportunity to the youth to be trained and employed. Under the skills training & employment programme (STEP) efforts were made to train and equip over 10,000 youth who were registered as unemployed. The challenge after training centred on giving them the required capital to set up or getting them the requisite training through attachment.

To give the youth of Ghana an opportunity to gain experience and enter the job market, the National Youth Employment Programme with was instituted a current total number of 107,524 youth employed.

Funding for the programme has remained the greatest challenge and going forward, it should be possible to establish an arrangement with the private sector paying for trainees with contribution from central government.
